Hyderabad, January 18: The Telangana government is aggressively working on three greenfield Airports and revival of three brownfield airports in the State, says Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Minister for R&B and Cinematography, at the inaugural of WINGS 2024 in Hyderabad on Thursday.

In line with the theme of the event ‘Connecting India to the world in Amrit Kaal’, the State government is constructing green field airports at Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jakaranpally in Nizamabad district and Gudibanda village of Adakkal Mandal in Mahabubnagar district.

The minister also informed that the brownfield airports at Mammnoor village in Warangal, Basanthnagar in Peddapally district and Adilabad district are being revived by the State government. “In the first phase, we have already initiated the work on Mammnoor airport and Adilabad airport,” he said.

Komatireddy further said that the State government has proposed a water aerodrome in Nagarjuna Sagar Dam and pre- feasibility report is completed by Airports Authority of India (AAI). The government is also evaluating other waterbodies for creating water aerodromes.

“The Government of Telangana has pioneered in connecting all districts and is the first State in the country to create permanent helipads in each district headquarters at district collectorate complexes,” he informed.

“The Telangana State Aviation Corporation limited and Tourism Department Government of Telangana are successfully conducting joy rides at various place in the State and recently conducted in Hyderabad city, Vemulvada and is all geared up for conducting joy rides in Mulugu district for Medaram Jathara, which is touted as Asia’s biggest tribal festival,” the minister added.

Hyderabad is the most-sought-after city for medical facilities and almost 50 per cent of the air ambulance services in the country operate in the city transferring patients to the most advanced hospitals.

The Telangana State Aviation Academy has imparted training to 135 commercial pilots, aircraft maintenance engineers with M Sc Aviation. It has trained 430 drone pilots and issued the licenses/ certificates and most of them are employed.

Telangana is the first State to come up with its own Drone policy to develop an ecosystem for the drone/ UAV industry. The State government is actively working with start-ups and industry partners to pilot drone usage in healthcare, agriculture, mining, law enforcement etc.

Government of Telangana in partnership with World Economic Forum (WEF) had launched the ‘Medicine from sky’ project wherein drones are used for medicine and organ delivery.

Aerospace, Defence and Space industries are thrust sectors for Telangana State. The industries department and TSIIC has developed several aerospace parks to host manufacturing, servicing, engineering, training and allied firms.
